On classical music, TV shows, comic strips and more

Here's a chance to get to know us better. We'll be featuring other members of the Z Team in upcoming blogs.

Do you have any hobbies?

Yes, I enjoy songwriting. It’s a fun avocation. I’m not an especially good singer or musician, but I like writing music and lyrics.

What kind of music do you like? Any particular artists you especially enjoy?

Over the years, I’ve had two distinct musical loves. One is classical. During the 1990s, I went for a long period listening to nothing but serious, orchestral music. It was a tremendous education in Western Civilization’s musical heritage. But I don’t listen to classical music much these days. I think I may have overdosed on it in the 90s.

My second love is the pop music of my youth. The Beatles are up at the top of my list. Harry Nilsson, Gerry Rafferty, Badfinger, the Guess Who and Gordon Lightfoot all rank high, too.

What are a few of your favorite movies?

“Back to the Future” is one of those movies everyone seems to like, and so do I. Classics such as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Duck Soup” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” are also favorites. “Superman: The Movie” is another – Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman were sensational in that film. However, I’m currently burned out on the superhero genre. There’s been too much of it in recent years.

You get to sit down with three figures in American history for a conversation. Who are they?

I’d like my sit-down session with Abraham Lincoln, Samuel Clemens and Frederick Douglass. Maybe find out what they think about today’s America. I’d keep Ben Franklin as an alternate if one of those three couldn’t make it.

What are a few of your all-time favorite TV shows?

“The Twilight Zone” is my favorite, by far. I consider it the most imaginative, thought-provoking show in TV history. I never tire of it. My favorite show in the private detective genre is “The Rockford Files.” James Garner was just magnificent in that role and the show had great writing. As for sitcoms: “Seinfeld,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” et al. Out of those comedies, my picks for the two funniest characters are Don Knotts as Barney Fife and Ted Knight as Ted Baxter.

Did you ever get in big trouble as a kid? If so, what did you do?

When I was in sixth grade, some official from a military academy – he seemed like a stern, stiff-upper-lip type – gave us a talk about his school. When he opened up for questions, I asked him if they had any bomb shelters (the Cold War was on at the time). The entire class erupted in laughter. Later that day, my teacher reprimanded me in front of the class for asking such a dumb question and embarrassing the school.

Do you have any major pet peeves?

This list is voluminous. On the road, tailgating is my most objectionable peeve. Also, when a car in front of me just sits there after the left-turn green arrow comes on.

Any favorite sports figures?

I grew up in Michigan and my family followed Detroit Tiger baseball, avidly. I loved the late Al Kaline, who went straight to the big leagues from high school and was the youngest man ever to win a batting title. Later on, my favorites included Alan Trammel, Lou Whitaker, Kirk Gibson, Chet Lemon, Jack Morris and many others.

Any favorite comic strips?

Two outshine them all: “The Far Side” and “Calvin & Hobbes.” No other strips come close to the unparalleled greatness of these two.

In a story of your life, which actor should play you?

When I was young, people thought I looked a lot like Jim Stafford, a popular singer at the time. So, maybe him (except he has a southern accent). If I could pick anyone in cinematic history, it would be James Stewart. But I’m afraid a movie about my life wouldn’t be sufficiently interesting to merit an actor of his stature.

Despite the ever-evolving digital landscape and the rise of new social platforms, Facebook remains a cornerstone for business marketing in 2025. Here’s why Z Corp PR & Digital continues to recommend Facebook as an essential channel for brands seeking growth, engagement, and results. Unmatched Global Reach and Local Impact With over 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook is still the most-used social network worldwide . This massive audience spans all demographics, providing businesses with unparalleled access to potential customers—whether you’re targeting a local neighborhood or launching a global campaign. Geo-targeting tools allow brands to tailor messages to specific communities, ensuring relevance and higher engagement. For small businesses, features like Facebook Groups and local events foster genuine connections and drive word-of-mouth marketing. Proven ROI and E-commerce Power Facebook’s advertising ecosystem remains robust. In 2025, worldwide ad revenues are projected to hit $116.53 billion, making Facebook the second-largest digital ad platform globally . For marketers, this translates to confidence: 67 percent of those using social listening report strong ROI from Facebook campaigns, ranking it ahead of TikTok and X, and just behind LinkedIn and Instagram. Notably, 38.5 percent of U.S. Facebook users are expected to make a purchase on the platform this year, with Marketplace and Shops driving significant social commerce activity . Facebook Marketplace alone boasts 250 million sellers worldwide, and nearly $94 million in social commerce is estimated to be generated on the platform in 2025. Advanced Targeting and Automation Facebook’s sophisticated targeting tools—such as Audience Insights, lookalike audiences, and behavioral data—enable businesses to reach the right people at the right time. Automated features, like Advantage+ campaigns, optimize ads for maximum impact, while Messenger and WhatsApp integrations streamline customer communication and support . These capabilities ensure that both organic and paid strategies are effective and scalable. Content Versatility and Engagement While engagement rates have shifted, Facebook’s evolving content formats—especially Reels, Live videos, and Stories—drive meaningful interaction. Live videos now receive 6x more engagement and 38 percent more views than standard videos, and Reels are watched daily by half of young Facebook users. Brands that leverage these formats, along with behind-the-scenes content and community-driven posts, see higher reach and loyalty. Real Results: Case Studies and Success Stories From global giants to local businesses, Facebook delivers measurable outcomes: Pandora achieved a 61 percent lift in purchases and a 42 percent increase in new buyers with a targeted video campaign . Samsung saw a 500 percent ROI and a 7 percent increase in new customers through a multi-stage Facebook video strategy. Church’s Chicken drove more than 592,000 store visits and an 800 percent ROI by targeting locals with dynamic ads. In a recent case study, a client doubled their sales using a mix of optimized posting times, engaging video content, and Facebook Shops for seamless e-commerce. The Bottom Line Facebook’s combination of scale, targeting, versatility, and commerce tools makes it indispensable for businesses of all sizes. Whether you’re building brand awareness, driving sales, or nurturing a loyal community, Facebook remains a dynamic platform that adapts to changing user behaviors and marketing trends. For Z Corp PR & Digital clients, it’s not just about being present on Facebook—it’s about leveraging its full suite of features to achieve real business results. Clear, effective communication is essential the world of business. Whether you're writing emails, reports, proposals or any other business document, your writing needs to convey your message quickly and effectively. Strong business writing skills are an asset that can set you apart from the competition and ensure that your messages are getting through. Here are three key things that can dramatically improve your business writing: 1. Clarity and simplicity One of the most important aspects of business writing is clarity . Your readers are often busy and don’t have time to decipher complicated sentences or jargon. To ensure your message is received, aim to write simply and directly. Avoid buzzwords and complicated language that might confuse the reader. Instead, use short, clear sentences that get to the point. Tip: Break down long paragraphs into smaller chunks to make the content more digestible. This will also help your reader quickly identify the key points you're making. For example: Instead of writing: "In light of the fact that we have encountered certain challenges with our current operational model, we are recommending a strategic overhaul in the near future." Try: "We’ve faced challenges with our current operational model. We recommend a strategic overhaul soon." Short, clear sentences not only save time but also make your writing much more impactful. 2. Understand your audience Good business writing is tailored to its audience . It doesn’t matter whether you're writing to colleagues, clients or stakeholders. Understanding your audience’s needs, expectations and level of knowledge will guide how you structure your message and which tone you should adopt. For example, if you're writing to a CEO, you might want to keep it concise and focus on high-level information, such as key results or strategic recommendations. If you're writing to a technical team, however, you can include more specific data or in-depth explanations. Tip: Before you start writing, ask yourself: "Who is this for? What do they need to know? What action do I want them to take?" Tailor your language, tone, and structure to meet their needs. 3. Use active voice Active voice makes your writing more direct, dynamic, and easier to understand. It also puts the emphasis on the person or entity taking action, making your writing more engaging. Passive voice can often create unnecessary complexity and make your writing feel detached or impersonal. For example: Instead of saying: "The report was completed by the team yesterday." Use: "The team completed the report yesterday." Active voice conveys a sense of responsibility and urgency, which is crucial in business writing where clarity and action are key. Tip: If you find yourself using passive voice often, try rewriting the sentence in active voice. It may take a bit of practice, but it will ultimately make your writing stronger. Final thoughts Improving your business writing doesn’t require a complete overhaul of your style; rather, it’s about adopting habits that make your writing more effective and engaging. Focus on clarity, tailor your message to your audience and aim to use active voice. By incorporating these three strategies into your daily communication, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a more effective business writer. In today’s competitive landscape, building a loyal community around your brand is essential for long-term success. A strong community fosters brand advocacy, enhances customer retention, and creates a foundation for organic growth. But how do you turn casual customers into devoted followers who champion your brand? Let’s explore key strategies to cultivate a loyal and engaged brand community. 1. Understand your audience The first step to building a loyal community is understanding who your audience is. Conduct surveys, analyze customer data, and engage in social listening to learn their preferences, pain points and aspirations. By gaining a deeper understanding of your audience, you can create tailored experiences that resonate on a personal level. Pro tip: Use tools like Google Analytics , social media insights, and customer feedback forms to gather actionable data. 2. Develop a clear brand identity Your brand identity is the cornerstone of your community. A clear and consistent voice, mission, and set of values help customers understand who you are and what you stand for. Authenticity is key; people are more likely to align with a brand that feels genuine and relatable. Example: If sustainability is a core value for your brand, showcase eco-friendly practices in your operations and marketing materials. 3. Create valuable content Content is a powerful tool for building and nurturing a community. By sharing insightful, entertaining, or educational content, you can provide value beyond your products or services. Blogs, social media posts, videos, and podcasts are excellent mediums to connect with your audience. Actionable tip: Focus on solving problems for your audience. For instance, a skincare brand might share tips on maintaining healthy skin during seasonal changes. 4. Engage consistently on social media Social media platforms are ideal for fostering two-way communication. Be sure you respond to comments. Get involved in online conversations. Interact with your audience members and they’ll feel more in sync with your brand. Hashtag power: Encourage customers to use branded hashtags to share their experiences, making them feel like an integral part of your brand’s story. 5. Reward loyalty Show your appreciation for loyal customers by rewarding their support. Loyalty programs, exclusive discounts and personalized offers can make customers feel valued. Additionally, recognizing community members publicly can strengthen their emotional connection to your brand. 6. Host events and experiences Bringing your community together through events—whether virtual or in-person—can deepen relationships. Webinars, Q&A sessions, product launches, or even casual meetups create opportunities for authentic interactions and foster a sense of belonging. Hybrid idea: Offer a mix of in-person and virtual options to make your events accessible to a wider audience. 7. Empower brand advocates Encourage satisfied customers to promote your brand. Word-of-mouth referrals and testimonials are powerful ways to grow your community organically. Provide tools and incentives for advocates to share their positive experiences with others. Implementation: Launch an ambassador program where loyal customers receive perks for promoting your brand. 8. Listen and adapt Building a loyal community is an ongoing process. Pay attention to feedback, monitor trends, and be willing to evolve. Customers value brands that listen to their needs and adapt to meet their expectations. Feedback loop: Regularly ask your community for input through polls, surveys, or direct messages. Conclusion Building a loyal community around your brand takes time, effort, and a genuine commitment to serving your audience. By understanding your customers, staying true to your brand identity, and fostering meaningful connections, you can create a community that not only supports your brand but also propels it to new heights. Start implementing these strategies today, and watch your community grow into a powerful force for your business.
